To help pass the time we registered our engine builder, Walter Brooks, as a driver and had him make a D (125 to 150 MPH) license run down the short course. We received regular reports from Lockhart Enterprises as our steel order was cut and readied for its trip out to meet us, on Wednesday it arrived. Wednesday the steel plates arrived and presented us with a new problem, holes, our cut order hadn’t included them and so ahead of us was the task of creating six 5/8 holes through one inch steel plate. Fortunately we were able to enlist the aid of Tom Burkland whose race trailer was equipped with a drill press, and by the end of the day our truck was approximately 700 pound heavier and parked in the pre-stage lines for the night. |

Hooley Huffman in 974 "Just Glad to be here" entered the 200 MPH club on Thursday by setting a new record at 236.921 MPH for B/BGCC. The 974 Stude is pictured here in impound attended by Sumner Pattersons push truck. |

We’ve still got 12 more mph to go before we can touch the current B/STR record, and we are back at home working on achieving that goal. We’ll be increasing the base weight of the truck so that we will have tuning weight available to us again. We plan to work on some aero issues around the front end of the truck as well as narrowing the rear end so that a larger diameter tire will fit comfortably and perhaps provide us with a more substantial contact patch. Most roadsters we chatted with in pre-stage weighed in near 4000 pounds, or truck it turns out was an anemic 2700. Speedweek 2007 here we come! |
