"North of 49" at Speed Week 2002

small logo

Bonneville Speed Week 2002 was FANTASTIC!

The North of 49 team completed 10 runs, and came home with two "B" licenses, a top speed of 191.734 mph and the car un-broken.

August 4, 2002 The engine is fired for the first time, between the frame rails of "North of 49".

August 6, 2002 - "North of 49" is loaded into the trailer and heads south to Bonneville.

August 9, The truck is rolled out and introduced to it's home for the next 6 days "the pit". A tarp to keep the salt clean and an awning, soon to be accompanied by several tents, to keep the sun at bay. From there it was off to the tech inspection line-up.

Tech Inspection
Where the SCTA's crew of volunteer inspectors check out the car, to be sure it's safe for both the operators and the event.
The SCTA inspection is the most pleasant, informative experience anyone could imagine. We were a nervous crew, new car, new drivers. The volunteers in the inspection made us feel very comfortable while providing great advice. 1149 went through the process with only a minor cowling adjustment. The drivers learned how to strap each other in properly and were coached  wonderfully before they did their "emergency exit test".

Saturday, 10 August. We're out early and took advantage of the morning to take some pictures of 1149 and the crew, prior to the drivers meeting.

The Crew, (well those that were around the Salt Saturday Morning)
Dave Ness, John Radermacher, Ted and Diane Allan, Don and Marilyn Siewert, Mike Siewert, Sandy and John Price.

Staging for North of 49's first run, Barry Klassen (umbrella) keeps Ted (center) and the car cool in the Saturday afternoon heat. Don Siewert (left) anxiously awaits his turn behind the wheel.
